Welcome to worship. We continue our summer series, exploring the big story of God. This week we look at Exodus 14 and the Israelites arrival at the red sea after they have escaped from Egypt
We are also meeting in person and this online service is a repeat of our in person service. If you are coming in person we would encourage you to wear a mask, particularly for singing.

Worship
Call to Worship
Let us pray together
O God who is greater than the most powerful forces in this world, enable us to be still and know that You are God.
O Lord who answers out of the whirlwind of everyday life, breathe in us Your Holy Spirit to strengthen, comfort, and guide us in the midst of the storm.
O still, small voice, speak to us this hour that we might become makers of Your peace in our homes, in our communities, in our world. We pray all this in the name of the One who calmed the raging sea. Amen.

Songs
Here are the songs for this week. You may want to save the last two for after the sermon
Prayer
If you have read the notices above, you will know that we are running Make Lunch during August. Make Lunch is aimed at families who struggle without free school meal provision in the holidays. We play games, make stuff, and have a meal together. This summer we are running Make Lunch with limited capacity (so invitation only) to ensure that we can keep everyone safe but we are excited to be able to run it in person! Our prayers today are particularly for our work of Make Lunch and the work that Transforming Lives for Good (TLG) do, of which Make Lunch is a part.
We haven't run an in person Make Lunch since February 2020, but we have tried to bring some of the Make Lunch experience into people's homes throughout the pandemic - from craft packs to cooking packs and extra goodies in food parcels, we have tried to help make the holidays a little different, a little easier and a bit more fun. We have had some support and inspiration from TLG through their boxes of hope initiative which many many churches have joined in... this video was made in May when they had reached 1 million meals through the churches that partner with them (including us).
Have a watch and give thanks
Some prayer points:
- Give thanks for the opportunity and resources to support families who would otherwise struggle to have enough food.
- Give thanks for the volunteers who have worked through the pandemic in our own church and beyond to continue the provision of food and activities
- Give thanks for TLG and their work in encouraging churches to get involved and the the resources they provide to make this happen.
- Pray for our Make Lunch programme this summer
- For Sandra as she co-ordinates
- For all the volunteers - strength, wisdom, energy and protection from COVID
- For the families who attend
- Pray for our food parcel provision as we go forward - pray that we might be able to walk with those we support to help them to find hope and transformation in what are often very difficult circumstances.
How might you make a difference to those who struggle in the holidays? Perhaps you might want to make the first step to doing something new today.
Word
Our sermon today is based on Genesis 14. You may want to read it first. You'll find it here
